Workshop on advance blogging:

Nari Jibon arranged a workshop on advance blogging on August,29. David Sasaki, director of Rising Voices conducted the workshop where 19 bloggers got training on advanced blogging. In this workshop, David Sasaki discussed and gave different tips & examples that how to use web link and technorati.com. He also showed the bloggers/students how to use it. He discussed about different search engines and shown them how to make link using html code. Through his discussions and showing examples on web link & technorati.com to the students/bloggers, they are now well known & more effective about the web link. Now they can use it in their own blog.

Training on photo bloggging:

A renowned photo journalist and full bright scholar from USA, Mr. Geoffrey Hiller gave training on photography/photo blogging. He came on 04. Sep, 12 Sep and also will come on the next Fridays.

Since the beginning Nari Jibon Project staffs and students have posted 373 articles including Video and photo post, (Bangla-115 and English-258). 27 articles (including photo, video post, poems) were posted over the last four weeks "10.08.08 to 30.08.08 (English-20 and Bangla-07).

Training on Flickr and photo blogging

 

Trainer: Ms. Kira Kariakar

 

Ms. Kira came to Nari Jibon on July 18, 25 and August 08. She trained some students on flickr accounts and photo blogging. She also helped some students/staff to open flick account and also to open their individual blog.

Blog workshop on Flickr:

 

Nari jibon blogdol arranged blog workshop on Friday (20.06.08). Venezuelan journalish and photo blogger Ms. Kira Kariakar, Mr. Shawn ahmed of Uncultured project, Prof. Dr. Kathryn B. Ward (Executive Director nari jibon project), Ms. Shaina Haider (Visiting English teacher/researcher (Nari Jibon) and under graduate student Florida University USA) were present in the meeting. 40 students and 13 staff attended the workshop. In the workshop Ms Kira told the staff/students/bloggers about the importance of photo blogging, flickr account etc.

 

In discussion on Flickr she told us that Flickr is a photo management and sharing application. We can use flickr to store pictures for our personal private use, to share them with our friends/family, to aid us blogging, to establish communities with friends and family and to pursue an interest through communities. She informed that in order to join flickr we need a yahoo account and no other email account can be used.

 

She told that image is worth a thousand words. Sometimes a unique image can express what we want to say. Other time an image can bring strength, emphasis to what we want to say. She also told that blogs that have posts with pictures often get more visitors than post without. Readers get interested on the pictures of the bloggers and his/her "eye of world" so they'll mean likely come back. She told pictures get listed in search engine like google and they attract visits referred by the search. And photo blog use pictures as their mean of expression instead of writing.

 

Ms. Kira told us the way of uploading pictures. She told in this respect that there are many ways to upload pictures and videos to flickr.  We can do it through the website with third part application and plug-ins by email and with our mobiles. On the website we click on the link to upload pictures on the welcome page. We can use the basic upload photos and videos page.  Ms Kira told us that we can send also pictures by email with an email address given to us for that purpose by flickr. 

 

Ms Kira told us that we can organize our picture by set and collection (only for paid account). For free accounts there is another way to organize the pictures is by tagging. She also informed us how we can post a picture in our blogs from a flickr.  In this respect she told that we can integrate our account with blogger. We can choose the pictures we want to blog even if it is not ours. And flickr account copyright permits.  We select the size we need for our blog and insert the code of the image in our post. The email will be retrieved and displayed in our blog. Ms Kira also told about safety and copyright. She told that in general we can set our levels of safety for searching and for what kind of content we have. We have to establish in our setting if our content is searchable and if it's safe.  

 

We can keep all our rights of authorship or select any of the licenses of creative commons. At the end of her speeches she told that she needs a small group of students/bloggers so that she can teach them clearly and easily about flickr accounts etc. 

 

On next Fridays (27.06.08, 04.07.08 and 11.07.08) she came to Nari Jibon and trained the students how to open flickr account and, how people can keep photos most organized way. She also helped to open separate blog for students and also opened flickr accounts for some students.

First Anniversary of Nari Jibon blog Project :

 

Nari Jibon blog dol celebrated 1st anniversary of blogging project on May,24,2008. Most of the staff and some students (25) attended the program where one year of NJ blogging activities was discussed and high lighted its problems, success and what to do etc. Program director asked the staff/students to give their best effort in blogging, recruiting bloggers, editing, posting and continue to write more on the blogs etc.

Nari Jibon blog dol arranged their regular blog meeting on 03.05.08 Rafiq, Taslima Akter, Golam Rabbany Sujan and Mohtarimun Naher Bipa were present in the meeting.  Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting.  It was also decided in the meeting that the next blog workshop will be held on Friday 23, May 2008

Nari Jibon blog dol arranged their regular blog meeting on 22.03.08. Rafiq, Taslima Akter, Golam Rabbany Sujan and Mohtarimun Naher Bipa were present in the meeting.  Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting.

Nari Jibon Blog activities up to 23.02.08

 

Nari Jobon blog meeting:

Nari Jibon blog dol arranged their regular blog meeting on 23.02.08. Rafiq, Taslima Akter, Golam Rabbany Sujan and Mohtarimun Naher Bipa were present in the meeting.  Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting.

 

Training:

 

Training on video blogging:

Taslima Akter went to Dhaka university campus along with three students /bloggers and took some videos on first day of spring. She trained the bloggers (Sherin Sultana, Afia Akter and Mahfuja Parul Tania) how to take good videos/pictures). They Sherin and Tania also spoke and show (in video) how they feel in the first day of spring. Ms Taslima also took videos of two University students who told about them briefly. Taslima Akter edited those video and posted as "the first day of spring".

 

Training on blogging using Citizen Media guide: Taslima Akter also trained some new/old students about blogging. (What is blog? How to write? What to write and importance of blogging etc. In the training session Ms Taslima followed the rising voice's Citizen Media guide (English and Bangla). Meeting/training/workshop:

Nari Jibon blog group/dol arranged a meeting/workshop on 08.02.08 with Ms. Kira www.k-minos.com , a Venezuelan photo Journalist who is working in Bangladesh in a Danish company. 38 students and 13 staff attended the meeting/workshop. In the meeting/workshop Ms. Kira explained the importance of blogging, advantage of flickr account. She also told about the importance of face book etc. She told the Nari Jibon staff/students/bloggers how people/community and country can be benefited by blogging. She highlighted the importance of opening personal blog.  Ms. Kira also told the staff/students that through blogging people can broaden their thoughts, creativity and writing skills. Through professional blogging people can also earn money and become celebrity. Ms. Kira in her speech on blogging asked the staff and students to read/see other bloggers activities specially who are doing Bangla blogs and also asked to write on Bangladeshi women and women rights etc. She thanked some of Nari Jibon best bloggers and asked them to keep up their good works. Before leaving Nari Jibon she assured us that she would come to Nari Jibon again. Through the meeting/workshop with Ms. Kira Nari Jibon students/staff/bloggers got to know much about blogging, about people of Venezuela, their food, culture and politics. Nari Jibon staff/students are very much encouraged to do more blogging. This meeting would help to improve Nari Jibon blog activities.

 

Nari Jobon blog meeting:

Nari Jibon blog dol also arranged their regular blog meeting on 09.02.08. Rafiq, Taslima Akter, Golam Rabbany Sujan and Mohtarimun Naher Bipa were present in the meeting.  Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting. It is decided in the meeting that Bipa and Taslima will be responsible for answering to any comments on both the blogs through students/staffs. Rafiq and Taslima will be responsible for contacting with Mr. David and other RV grantees, see/read and write comments on other blogs, follow-up etc. Rafiq will write updates of the blogging activities and also send other reports as and when needed.

Nari Jibon Blog meeting was held on (12.01.08). Rafiq, Taslima Akter, Golam Rabbany Sujan, Mohtarimun Naher Bipa, Shamima, were present in the meeting.  Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting.

 

Workshop/Training:

 

Nari Jibon blog dol (group) arranged a Workshop/training program on Friday 11.01.08 for the new/old bloggers. Mr. Shawn of Uncultured project conducted the workshop/training. Forty four students and fourteen staff attended the workshop. Trainer Mr. Shawn trained the students/staff (bloggers) how to take good picture, and video. He showed the rules of taking good picture and video. He told that there should be a sub title and short explanation of any video blogging. Mr. Shawn opened Nari Jibon you tube account and trained the staff on pod cast interview. He also shared his experience of visiting Cyclone Sidr affected area (showed picture and video).

 

Some of Nari Jibon English/Bangla bloggers sang a song ‘We shall over come some day” (both in English and Bangla). One computer student also recited her own writing poem on NJ blog.

 

Four students were selected and awarded as the best bloggers (Two from English and two from Bangla blog). They are Zannat Ara Amzad (The street beggar), Sherin Sultana (An anecdote of my friend, Mitu), Sufia Khatun (Protivar Bilupti- Abolished talent) and Nafisa Mobassara (Mayer dadur biye—Marriage of mother’s grand father). Three of them were given prize for their good post (one student/best blogger was absent).

Among staff Taslima Akter, Mohtarimun Naher Bipa and Golam Rabbany Sujan were acknowledged for their good effort in the blog activities (posting, Editing, Translation) and also for their good post. Taslima Akter was acknowledged for her video blogging and Video training, Golam Rabbany Sujan for nice post on Cyclone Sird and other good posts and Mohtarimun Naher Bipa for translating, editing and also for her good post ‘In south Asia, Bangladesh is one of the few countries that remain to be explored’.All others bloggers (students/staff) were also acknowledged for their good effort on Nari Jibon blog activities.

 

Since the beginning Nari Jibon Project staff and students have posted 167articles (both Bangla and English). 9 articles were posted from 30.12.07 to 12.01.08 (English-6 and Bangla-2).

Nari Jibon Blog meeting was held on (29.12.07). Rafiq, Taslima Akter, Golam Rabbany Sujan, Mohtarimun Naher Bipa, Shamima, were present in the meeting.  Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that the Second blog workshop will be held on Friday 11 January 2008.

 

Since the beginning Nari Jibon Project staff and students have posted 158 articles (both Bangla and English). 22 articles were posted from 09.12.07 to 29.12.07 (English-13 and Bangla-9).

Nari Jibon blog dol (group) arranged a training program for the new/old bloggers and (work study students) on 23.11.07. Taslima Akter conducted the training program. Ms. Taslima briefed the new, old bloggers (staff/students/ work-study students) about video blogging. She trained the students how to take picture, how to operate digital camera, taking picture and video in different zoom, how to down load picture from memory card and camera and also capture the video from tape. She also trained the new bloggers what is blog, how to write a post, what to write etc. Following students/staffs were present in the blog training:

Nari Jibon Blog dol (group) arranged a meeting/training program on (15.09.07)

 Rafiq, Taslima Akter, Golam Rabbany Sujan, Mohtarimun Naher Bipa, Shamima were present in the meeting. Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting.

Ms. Taslima trained the bloggers (students) about blog, website, internet etc. Sheikh Rumana,  Kamrun nahar puspo Id: 715, Jesmin Ara Amzad  Id: 713 Zannat  Ara Amzad  Id: 712, Papaya Hossain Shampa Id: 724 attended the training program.

 

Next Training: Next training will be on blogging for some new students and staff.

Sympathetic feelings of the author about a man who sleeps in the hospital (works as the attendant of patient telling them that he has patient in the hospital (but he does not have any patient) at night as he has no house to live at Dhaka. He can not live in rented house as he does not have enough money. In day time he pulls rickshaw and at night he sleeps in hospital. He is earning/saving money for her family (Mother, and sibling).

We arranged training program for new and old bloggers on 21.08.07. Taslima Akter conducted the training program. In the training session Taslima Akter explained the new and old bloggers (students) about Internet, Internet browsing, about web, what is blog, how to write and what to write etc. Twenty English/computer students were present in the training program. Ms. Taslima also trained the blog dol how to post. In next training session she will explain more on it.  Rafiq, Golam Rabbani Suajan, and Mohtarimun Naher Bipa attended the training program.

We are hoping to get some more soon from the student bloggers.

August, 11,2007 Update

 

Nari Jibon Blog dol (group) arranged a meeting/training program today (11.08.07). Nari Jibon blog activities, progress, problem and what to do were discussed in the meeting.  

Since the beginning we have posted 37 articles. 5 articles were posted in this week (English-3 and Bangla-2). Among those one was interview (Bangla student). We have four articles in hand. After editing those will be posted soon.

We conducted two interviews over the week. Among those one interview is posted and another one will be posted soon. We are hoping to get 6-10 articles in next week.

We arranged training program for new and old bloggers in this week. Animesh Chandra Bain conducted the training program. 

 All the bloggers (Staff/students) were asked to make their profile. Some bloggers (students) can not come due to flood. Still we are hoping to post some profile next week. Some students (bloggers can not give writings as they are very busy with their exam/study. After exam they will continue their writings as usual.

August, 04, 2007  Update

 

 

Nari Jibon blog dol arranged weekly blog meeting today (04.08.07). Nari Jibon blog activities, Progress, problems and what to do in the next week were discussed in the meeting.

Ms. Bipa informed that 20-26students are contributing in the blog. Some are giving articles once a week and some are giving their writings twice a month. She has 9 articles (staff's and students') in hand. After completion of editing she will submit those for posting. Shamima has submitted three articles (Bangla) today.  Taslima also has submitted an article (Bangla) today. After editing those will be posted. 

Mr. Animesh informed that since the beginning 32 articles including some interviews were posted. From July, 27 to August 04 total 9 articles were posted. Taslima and Animesh have taken video coverage of some flood affected area of Dhaka city. Those will be posted today.

There was also a training session before the meeting on blog software. Mr. Animesh trained some staff how to manage blogsite, website browsing and bangla typing etc.  

In the meeting it was decided that next interview will be of a successful business woman and also some other business women in Dhaka city.

 July, 26, 2007 Update

 

Nari Jibon blog dol arranged weekly blog meeting today (26.07.07). Rafiq, Taslima, Animesh, Sujan, Bipa and Taslima were present in the meeting.  We discussed about the progress, problems and what to do in the meeting.

 

Since the beginning of NJ blog we posted 23 articles. Among those 5 are from interview ( Cake maker, Rickshaw puller, Stugzgled girl (Brick breaking girl), Tokai girl, and a Sw). We have 15 articles in hand. Four of them need editing. After completion of editing they will be given for posting.  

We have completed first training session accordingly and are trying to proceed according to the time table that is posted in the wiki today. In this week 23-28 we are supposed to take two interviews. We have interviewed one migrant women ( Shekh Rumana yesterday ( Sujan is writing on it and another one will be taken within this week ( Probably Poly, a successful business women). We have posted one article in this week and some will be posted (minimum three) within this week). Tarun will give two articles in bangle tomorrow and will continue giving bangle articles.

According to Katies suggestion Rozina will give her students class related assignment and we will post some them in the blog (Bangla)

At present we do not have bangla students who can write for blog. Actually bangla students are at the primary stage of Bangla learning. Ms Shamima is asked to take some of her students' interview (-Why they want to learn Bangla,-What they will do after learning Bangla, and their golpo (story) etc.

We do not have much problem with the blog activities except Bisti (rainy season) and Bangla writing). Bisti might make problem sometime to go out for interview. We are hoping to solve the problem of Bangla writing soon.
